August 8, 2017 conference call

The Thermo Special Interest Group of the CAPE-OPEN Laboratories Network has been asked by the Methods & Tools Special Interest Group to provide its input on the need for supporting CAPE-OPEN Thermo 1.0 in COBIA. During the conference call held on August 8, 2017, Sergej BLAGOV (BASF), Jasper van BATEN (AmsterCHEM), Mark STIJNMAN (Shell Global Solutions) and myself developed an answer to the question raised. The position taken is that COBIA should not include support for Thermo 1.0.

The Thermo SIG has been pushing for Thermo 1.0 deprecation for the past few years. The issue was raised back in 2014 during the CAPE-OPEN Annual Meeting held in Mörfelden, Germany. Such a deprecation seems needed when considering the benefits brought by Thermo 1.1. Still a path forward needs to be offered to those who have invested solely in Thermo 1.0.

Views on continuing support and implementation of Thermo 1.0 are welcome.
