Cannot use the Excel Unit Operation

Postby arvind.prasad » 17 February 2014, 05:25

My operation system is Windows 7 and the Excel is Microsoft Office Excel 7. After downloading COCO I added Excel Unit Operation in Excel Add-In.
I am trying the load the Excel Unit Operation in the COCO flowsheet. I get the following error in the log
"error: failed to initialize Excel Unit Operation: failed to get dispatch interface from spreadsheet"
On double clicking the Excel Unit Operation and clicking the botton, "Non commercial User...." I get the error
"Cannot Edit: Failed to get object: Unit is not properly initialized" in a message box.
COCO and EXCEL Unit operation work perfectly fine in my home computer.
Can someone just guide me for solving this.

This error (which I reckon has a space in between spread and sheet) indicates that the Excel COM object was not created properly.

I suspect the OLE part of Excel has problems, perhaps due to an incomplete installation. Can you embed an Excel spread sheet in, say, Word? (in Word, try Insert, Object, Create New, Microsoft Excel Worksheet)

Please send me an e-mail message and I will reply with a debug version of the Excel Unit Operation that may reveal what is going on.

This sounds like an Excel installation problem after all. Try re-installing?

Note that the Excel Unit Operation needs to close and re-open the Excel file frequently, particularly

- after user interaction (as the user closes the file, to signal end of editing)
- in case of COFE and back-ground thread calculations: each time the model is solved, as the transfer to a different thread is done via persistence

Dear Jasper,
I have Sony Vaio laptop installed with Windows 7 home basic 64 bit. I have re-installed Microsoft office and the problem persists. Does the OS in any way hamper the call of Excel by COCO?

This does not sound like a problem with the operating system. Does the problem with embedding an Excel document in Word persist?

Yes the problem with embedding excel in word still persist. I can't really figure out what is the problem? My home computer has Windows 7 enterprise version.
